Constant Le Marchand, sieur de Lignery/Ligneries:  (? - 1732)
Constant was the son of Joseph Marchant, sieur de Ligneries des Chareutilly & Marguerite du Sillas/Dusellar. He married Anne-Francoise Robutel (daughter of Claude Robutel de St.Andre & Suzanne de Gabrielle) in 1691 at Montreal. Their children were: Louis-Joseph (b.1695), Charles (bap.1697)(m.Ursule Aubert in 1732), Pierre-Claude (bapt.1698), Constant-Christophe (1700-1708), Jacques (bap.1701) & Francois-Marie (b.abt.1703)(m.Marie-Therese Migeon in 1738).
Constant was promoted to Lieutenant in 1687, Captain in 1691, Major in 1728 and awarded the Chevalier de St.Louis in 1728. He was commander at Michilimackinac in 1715 and in 1717 was sent to punish the Fox tribe. Anne-Francoise was hiring men to travel west to Michilimackinac from 1713 to 1717. He was again commanding (1725-26) at Michilimackinac and on the 7th of June 1726 he held a council (also attending the council were d'Amariton, Cligancourt and Rev.Father Chardon) at Green Bay with the Fox, Sauk & Winnebagoes in which the Chiefs of those Nations agreed to peace. Again in 1728 he sent on a punitive mission against the Fox tribe and arriving at the Fox village fortification at the mouth of the Fox River on the 17th of August, found the fort abandoned. The expedition (a force of about 400 French & 800-900 Warriors) continued up the Fox River as far as the Wisconsin River portage finding the Fox had fled their villages before their arrival. The expedition retraced their route back down the Fox River destroying Fox villages & crops along the river.
Constant settled at Trois-Rivieres becoming the "Town Major" there.
